Joanna Miller, the central character, is the prototypical "tough guy" as she becomes engulfed in one flaming inferno of desire: to destroy Brian Thorpe, her twin sister's conniving husband and alleged murderer. Joanna has the unique ability to sense her sister's pain and can feel Sara as she is thrust into her 'watery grave." Brian, who admits to killing the sisters' parents, is portrayed with zero conscience; he's a cold-blooded lunatic who will stop at nothing to see his plan for a California health club and a life of luxury come to fruition. One Twin is a powerful tale of revenge and family ties.
While the murder mystery in itself is intriguing, the story allows readers to follow Joanna through her numerous trucking excursions from Canada to the United States. Throughout, Solomon, her loyal pet iguana, is at her side, and perhaps more possessive than her actual human love interests. Not only is Solomon the epitome of comic relief, but he also shows the value of companionship in the life of a trucker. In fact, most of Joanna's journeys occur with Solomon and Sara's doll in the passenger seat.
Despite the constant traveling, long hours, and shifting from hotel room to hotel room, Tikat successfully captures the spirit of a trucker. Whether it's Joanna's descriptions of the crystallized waters in Salt Lake City or the panoramic views of Quebec and Florida, the author's passion for trucking is transparent. One Twin reveals a world that hasn't received nearly enough recognition or exposure, and in that sense, it is very much a trucker's delight.
