"There are lots of options when you’re thirty years old, semi-retired, and living in South Florida."
Danny Grossman's decision to turn to easy money has deadly consequences. Grossman is violently tortured and murdered inside his home. Dave Foley, a childhood friend and homicide detective, is called in to investigate. Who would want to murder a paramedic? When Foley discovers a $30,000 stash of cocaine inside Grossman’s home, he learns the dark path his friend decided to take.
Foley's investigation leads him to Wes and Rafe, friends from the past who are now involved in the drug trade and smuggling. Questions surface and Rafe is suspected of playing a part in Grossman's death. Foley and Wes uncover chilling details of dirty cops committing brutal crimes as they rip off drug dealers throughout South Florida. All the while, an intrepid news reporter is determined to break the story and becomes a target of The Leader, one of the dirty cops. It all comes to a violent head deep in the heart of the Everglades as the friends search for justice.
Allan's crisp dialogue and engaging writing style quickly draw readers in. Vibrant descriptions of South Florida's landscape and landmarks add authenticity to the plot. Allan artfully weaves a long cast of characters in and out of the novel just as the River of Grass winds its way through the Everglades. However, the gratuitous sex that appears every few chapters and brutal descriptions of rape and murder will make this a difficult read for some.
