A Perfect Gift by George W. Monroe Lulu
book review by Barbara J. Deming
"...I'm heading home for the holidays. God, I hope nothing prevents my getting there."
Chris Langton, is heading home to Chicago to be with his family on Christmas Eve. He and Carolyn were married in spite of her family's objections, and they recently lost their business. In order to support his wife and son, Chris has taken to the road as a long-haul truck driver.
In San Diego, thoughts of their courtship surface as Chris shops for the perfect gifts: a locket for Carolyn's holiday birthday, a bottle of her favorite perfume, and a small wagon for son, Christopher. The purchases are surrounded by unique events, but the true value of these gifts is exposed as they are given away to the truly needy.
Outside of Little Rock, Chris stops to assist a stranded elderly couple. Struck by another car, he is seriously injured. As doctors and nurses attempt to save his life, Carolyn and Christopher fly to his side and, together again, the family acknowledges love as the real miracle healer we all seek.
Monroe, a retired Episcopal priest, touches readers' hearts with this novella of love conquering all. The author offers the history of each gift on the path to the moral of the taleāno matter what our circumstances, caring for our fellowman/woman should become second nature. From front page to last, Monroe will pull readers into the character's world and leave most seeking more. I sincerely hope to read more stories from this excellent author.
