book review by Susan Illis
"My current theory is that everyone begins life with the ability to see the auric field, but we lose this capacity as we grow older."
After such an enticing introduction to learning how to see auras, Connor continues by explaining that her book is intended for the energy healing practitioner in professional practice, dashing hopes of any would-be beginners. A born clairvoyant with extensive training in both traditional and alternative medicine, Connor shares her expertise in a well-organized, clearly written, and easily understood manual that may lead even the non-healer to believe him or herself able to learn how to read auras.
Step-by-step instructions coupled with explanatory photographs are interspersed with "quick recaps," which review highlights of previous chapters. Throughout her manual, Connor emphasizes the importance of proper breathing to enable the energy flow through the body. She repeats that "the breath is the fire, the breath is the flow, and the breath helps to generate the currents of the body." Chapters thoroughly explain the breath, grounding, intention setting, midline current, chakras, etc.
Connor also devotes considerable attention to the ethics of seeing and reading auras, providing sample scenarios with recommended coping techniques. Again, these situations are geared toward the practicing healer, not laypeople. If anything is lacking in Connor's comprehensive guide to seeing auras, it is a thorough interpretation of what the auras mean, but perhaps those who are capable of seeing auras do not need such explicit information.
Only a few years ago, Connor's ideas may have been dismissed as relevant only to a fringe group, but as formerly alternative practices such as yoga, meditation, and complementary medicine become more mainstream, forging a better understanding of auras seems not the least bit outlandish. Perhaps next time Connor will share her talents by writing a how-to for non-healers.
