The Set-Up

book review by Maggie Harding
"Congressman Jerry Olson has been set up. Someone took a video of him allegedly accepting a bribe Now I personally know the congressman, and consider him to be an honest person. I know that this is something he would never do.” Vince Apollo is talking to a group of men he has assembled to get to the bottom of this attempt to smear a dedicated public servant."
The Set-Up is a well-executed tale of intrigue, mystery, deals, and double crosses that threaten a Congressman's career and could result in even further financial crisis for the United States. While a government panel is deciding who to select as program director for a multi-billion dollar restoration project, there are those with their own agendas—agendas that definitely do not have the nation's best interests at heart. In fact, their plan is to swindle and skim as much money as they can from the project and will stop at nothing to position themselves to be able to do so. Complex yet not complicated, the outcomes will have the reader guessing right up to the last chapter.
Uribe has created a likable hero in Vince Apollo. Vince had the kind of reversal of fortune that most only dream about. Living on the edge after losing his job, about to lose his home, he had nowhere to turn for help. Then one phone call changed everything. His great-aunt's attorney called and told Vince that he was the sole beneficiary of her considerable estate. Thus, when his friend Congressman Jerry Olson came to him with a life-threatening problem, Vince had the time and the means to help him. Readers who enjoy a bigger than life hero will be looking forward to the next book in the Vince Apollo series.
