Some people tend to stress about sex too much. Unlike other creatures, who just do what comes naturally, humans sometimes overthink the action and take the fun out of carnal pleasures. Author Alison Brause aims to bring some of the fun back into the act of lovemaking. Her book is short and filled with fun, bite-sized thoughts about sex and how to make it more enjoyable for everyone involved.
Rather than coming across as a traditional self-help book, the book is light on advice and instead consists of a series of stream-of-consciousness style vignettes about everything from gender and politics to the sexual aptitude of deaf people. Some space in the back is reserved for trying some assignments and making notes about your experience with them, though these are not the main focus of the book. Instead of driving people to do new things, Brause’s purpose instead seems to be to want to change our thinking about sex and how we approach it, no matter which angle one approaches it from. Since the author pairs the topic of sex with potentially controversial issues like politics and religion, some readers might find a few of her ideas offensive. However, those who do not may get some fun out of the content instead. The thoughts are simple and humorous and only brush the surface of the topic. Each idea presented gives a glimmer of a thought and leaves you to delve deeper into things on your own. You won't find any earth-shattering ideas in this book; rather, you will receive small nudges towards making your own.
