Soul Reflections:
Living a More Conscious and Meaningful Life by Diane Hancox Trafford Publishing
book review by Corinna Underwood
"Soul Reflections intent is to assist the voyage into the inner unconscious world for necessary reflection. These pages are intended to initiate an essential dialogue between the conscious and the unconscious, between the ego and the true self."
From the first page of Soul Reflections the reader embarks upon a journey to the inner self. Hancox has created a book that will simultaneously challenge and inspire. Each chapter explores an aspect of inner personal knowledge and encourages us to examine our egos, reflect upon our personas, let go of restrictive patterns of though and behavior, and find our own unique paths through life. The book intertwines Jungian theory, soul searching questions, and personal meditation to create a mood of calm reflection and inner peace. The reflections at the end of each chapter guide us through an examination of our inner-most thoughts, childhood memories, learned behaviors, and habits, while providing us with gentle guidelines to finding happiness, developing peace of mind, and expressing gratitude.
One of the most helpful chapters is "We Are Complex In More Ways Than One," in which we are asked to consider destructive forces in mythology and shown how to reflect upon our inner complexes which may be leading us to self-destructive behaviors. Another is "To Be Normal Or Not to Be Normal," which explains that when we try too hard to be normal, all we accomplish is a disabling neurosis.
This book is an important tool for anyone who wishes to enhance their understanding of themselves and others and to enrich their lives with a deeper meaning. Soul Reflections is a self-help book that keeps on giving. No matter how many times you read it, you will always find something to spark new insights into your unconscious. This is truly a great book that will help you grow!
