Take Care of the Children in Your Own Backyard
by Earline Carr
Trafford Publishing

"Children like that who grow up without you in the household wonder if the did something wrong or that you left because you did not love them."

No one can deny that young people today are faced with many dangers. Drug and alcohol use, teen pregnancy, and crime are just some of the poor choices that are robbing youth of their futures. Carr has seen her share of the effects of poor choices in New Orleans where she resides. Fed up with witnessing the downfall of her beloved city, Carr decided to speak out by writing this book. Her intention is to warn parents and caregivers to better guard their families.

Carr covers such topics as drugs ("Parents... if you have any leftover sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, please flush them."), being a good role model for kids ("Ladies use wisdom"), and children's sleepovers ("Sexual predators are all around us. There are times when it is not safe to allow your kids to spend the night at a relative's house.") There are chapters on the responsibilities of parents and the effects of deadbeat mothers and fathers.

Carr doesn't content herself with just addressing parents, though. She also writes to young men and women, urging them to have enough selfrespect to make good, responsible choices for themselves. For kids, she covers topics like bullying and teen pregnancy.

Each chapter can be read on its own or the reader can read the entire book all the way through. Easy to read, Carr's book is filled with practical, no-nonsense wisdom. Adolescents and parents alike would benefit from following the direct advice Carr has to offer.
