"Thank you for my Blue Heron times when quiet beauty patiently waits for your tasty words to swim by."

This book of poetry is a love song to both the power of God and words. In eight chapters, the author uses metaphor to express how she finds spiritual truths in all aspects of life, from contemplating the miraculous movements of animals to working through the depths of depression. She writes with a purpose—to present the reader with the wondrous healing power of God as she has experienced it in her life. Her poetry is personal. She shares her experiences of both despair and joy equally. Dubbs delves into subjects of not only nature but also silence and sound, the struggles of life, the depths and despair of human suffering, and the life of Christ. She credits her ability to create poetry to God, stating, “The Lord calls me his Ready Writer . . . the words he gives me can have the power of boulders or the tenderness of feathers.”

One cannot help but be impressed by the author’s dedication to purpose in this short but deep book of verse. Many of her poems are interspersed with the inspirational scriptures that were the impetus of their creation, giving a more profound insight into their meaning. Her writing is, at times, immensely dark, such as when she addresses the despair of depression, But there is always the hope that is afforded by faith in God. These poems are candid, personal, and express what one experiences in the Christian walk. They offer readers a glimpse into the mind of a writer who gleans her words from her creator. Many readers will find comfort, joy, and truth in these writings, but most importantly, these words are filled with hope. For those who enjoy their poetry sprinkled with spiritual truths, this is one not to miss.
