Two active, curious little girls, Hallie and Ella, are excited to hear the great news: their grandparents are coming for a visit. The family rushes to the patio to greet them as they drive up, pulling a cute little caravan where they will stay during their visit. Grandma has wonderful hugs, holding both of them together in her soft arms. Grandpa has an idea: why not let the girls sleep in the caravan with Grandma and him? Of course, Hallie and Ella are thrilled and can barely wait until bedtime. As soon as supper is over, they beg to go, only pausing to clean their teeth. They are tucked into sleeping bags on bunk beds. Each one has a little light that they can turn on if they get scared. Grandpa reads them a story, and they soon fall asleep. But then, scary things start to happen. Loud noises need to be investigated, and then there is the eerie sight of teeth floating in a glass of water.
Author Caffey brings her experience in the health field to the composition of this highly readable adventure with a strong message for children: always keep your teeth clean. She makes it clear that Grandpa now has false teeth because when he was young, he neglected his real teeth. The final page shows the two brave girls rushing into the house to brush their teeth. Illustrations by Ayin Visitacion enliven every page with bright color and special attention to facial expressions like the wide eyes of the frightened girls and the pleasant smiles of their amused grandparents. A picture of the little round-topped caravan, its interior exposed, gives a satisfying sense of nesting. This is a delightful little tale providing a unique read-to opportunity for grandparents that is sure to engage and educate its young listeners.
