The human body has unknown abilities that science has yet to uncover. What if that potential could be harnessed by means of medicine men and monks? Andre Robertson seeks the answer when he goes to South Dakota and then to China to learn under the tutelage of Shaolin monks. Where others strive to enhance their body through kung-fu, Andre desires to strengthen his mind and spirit. All goes well until he finds out via telegram that his father has had a stroke. He and a friend named Jing Xian rush back to the United States, only to find out that his father's real medical report was misplaced and there are mysterious people bullying him over his company's import regulations. Can Andre use the abilities his learned to channel his body and mind to work at a heightened state in order to save his father's company and his friends?
Hoy writes a story that is equal parts action and adventure. Andre and the characters he interacts with take him all over the globe—the United States, to China, and even Morocco—and will appeal to those who like adventure stories that happen in an ever-changing environment. The author has a familiar knowledge of the various locales and traditions within the countries which makes them come alive for the reader. The characters are empathetic and relatable as Andre, along with his friend Jing Xian, are determined to bring those who had bullied his dad to justice. Hoy takes a unique twist to the genre by showing that sometimes it is mind over matter that gets the job done.
