Visited by Star Travelers
by Duane Arthur Ose
Stratton Press

"Humans here on earth may be far ahead of life on other worlds, but are far behind on the intelligence of the star travelers."

The author preferred outdoor education over school learning, although he did enjoy painting. His Scandinavian relatives had moved from Norway to Minnesota, where his grandfather was known as a craftsman—a stonemason. At the time of Ose's visit by star travelers, it was bow and arrow season for deer hunters. He headed out at 4:30 AM to his deer blind located on the Ose family tree lot. Suddenly, his Chevy experienced a loss of electrical capability. Twice he lifted the hood to jiggle wires and battery mounts. The car restarted the second time. Ose felt he was being watched. He would have that feeling more than once in his lifetime.

What happened next is a classic alien visit: overhead light coming directly down; a hovering, ball-shaped metal object; a door opened; a greeter (a robot with an elongated head); a telepathic invitation to enter and no fear of doing so. Ose left his bow and arrow by a tree and walked inside. The examination appeared to last several hours, but his bow and arrow were waiting where he left them. This speaks loudly about the author's frame of mind. He either believed the greeter who told him not to fear or reacted according to some instinctual knowledge. Trust is not unrealistic for a young man who was respected in the community for his work ethic.

After enlisting in the army, Ose was sent to bases in Korea and then Indiana. There, he was told to erase radar tapes tracking a similar object over Lake Michigan. Clearly impressed by what he saw that morning, Ose uses his aptitude for painting to recreate the atmosphere and colorful robots as he experienced them. As a writer, he tells his story logically and precisely, making his relatively short book a quick and easy read.
