"When the Lord takes action in your life, it takes your breath away with the speed at which things happen."
Helen Thayne experienced God's love throughout her life, but she never felt comfortable speaking out about it. That reluctance changed after she attended a 1965 Billy Graham Crusade where she publicly went forward and committed her life to Jesus Christ. Taking the phrase "Go ye into all the world and spread the Gospel" to heart, Thayne was soon able to share her faith.
In Walking with Jesus, the author joyously reveals her personal life story and her connection with Jesus Christ. Though small in size, there is beauty in this little book as it speaks volumes about divine intervention, and trusting in the supernatural power of Jesus in touching our everyday lives. Here, the less is more truism aptly applies. The short chapters make for easy reading, and the comfortable writing style takes us from Thayne's childhood thru adulthood, with simple descriptive recollections of significant life events where the author felt Jesus' presence and guidance. From an early memory where she recalls reconciling an argument with her sister, to found safety during the war years, surviving nurse's training, finding her soul mate, overcoming health issues, and ultimately finding the perfect home, the author acknowledges feeling the Lord's presence.
Prayer is clearly essential for Thayne, as she often asks for higher blessings upon the individuals she felt God sent to help and inspire her throughout her life. Pointedly she writes about feeling closer to God during the toughest times. She reminds readers that when our faith is being tested and we question our beliefs, those are the moments we must embrace and trust what God has in store. Readers will be drawn to the fact that Thayne is just an ordinary woman dealing with relatable circumstances. In sharing testimony which intertwines Bible study, prayer, and accepting the daily guidance of Jesus Christ, this pocket-sized work succinctly serves as the impetus for readers to find and realize their own personal connection with the Lord.
