The Warden Cross: The Journey Begins
by Clive Andrews
Trafford Publishing

"A Warden man is a man of honor, and I swear to uphold the family honor."

In The Warden Cross, young Jonathan, or Jo-Jo, Warden takes a journey back in time that transforms him completely. The story itself is exciting and attention grabbing for young boys, an overall a wonderful tale. Before his trip, he was a slightly built underdog among the boys at his boarding school, but his catapult into the world of his ancient ancestors strengthens him mentally, physically, and emotionally. Jonathan returns to his own time with a unique understanding of the Warden family motto: A Warden man is a man of honor, and I swear to uphold the family honor.

Andrews weaves an exciting tale for young boys to read, filled with rich detail so that the reader can vividly imagine himself in the pathway of young Jonathan. The language is written at the level of a middle school age child so that it will hold the boys' interest without being either too complex or too simple. Andrews also keeps the story moving with Jonathan experiencing many varied escapades while on his journey through time. The difference in him is noticed immediately by his mother upon his return. Jonathan's journey of learning, self-confidence, and dealing with bullies as he matures into adolescence in his family's past will ring true with middle school boys facing similar demands, even though the lessons are learned through modern experiences. With the subtitle The Journey Begins, it gives hope that there may be sequels to this book with more adventures of Jonathan and the Warden Family Cross.
