You Can Do This!

"I can hear some of you saying, why don't we just buy the darn ice cream? Well, of course you can, but then you'd miss the fun of making it and eating it with someone you love. "

Jim Te Selle's book is full of mouth-watering recipes designed to make many delicious dishes, but it is not exactly a cookbook. Even though recipes are present, the main purpose of the book is to help you raise your self-confidence through the art of cooking. Te Selle embarks on a cooking adventure through which he teaches the reader to cook easy dishes all the way to the hard ones in seven days. The author decided to start cooking to get his life back on track when his wife left him and he had to raise two boys on his own. He wanted to get his life "squared away," as stated on the back cover of the book.

This book is as delicious as it is heartwarming, and the reader can easily identify with the author's struggles. Especially of note is the humorous story of how the author started cooking. He made banana bread for his children with many failed attempts, until he finally got it right with the correct recipe. Some sample dishes include Roast Chicken with Stuffing, Steamed Snow Peas, and Bread Pudding, and the recipes go from very easy to difficult for an ultimate confidence boost. The author often ends his chapters with "Never give up!" or a similar uplifting saying to encourage the reader to keep going even though there could be possible failures in the cooking process. This is a great book for those who love to cook, but also for those who want to raise their self-confidence and grow at the same time.
